Despacito is a hit song from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi along with Daddy Yankee was released in the year 2017. It became the number streaming music of that time within six month. The single a mix of pop music and reggaeton did not just bring attention to reggaeton but it also drew interest towards Latin music in general. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs predominantly in Spanish in 2016, compared to two in the year 2015. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017 however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it into the top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 songs. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 with a version in two languages. Soon, other artists collaborated with reggaeton superstars including Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma with Medellin 2019. As early as 2020, some reggaeton musicians protested that it was moving towards mainstream. Rauw Alajandro is a participant in a fresh generation of musicians who are determined to shift the course. He incorporated electronic dance styles and other genres into his songs.
