Portia Lee James DeGeneres is an actress and model from the United States of America who is known as Portia de Rossi. At the age of 15 she officially changed her name by adopting that Italian nickname "de Rossi" that was fashionable. She adopted the name "Portia" from Shakespeare's play The Merchant of Venice. Portia considers it the daringest of things she's done. It was said by her that an internal conflict over her sexuality prompted her to take the leap. Portia began her career in the film industry with a romantic comedy drama called 'Sirens' in which she starred alongside Hugh Grant. Portia is a star in numerous American television movies, which include "Too Something," "Nick Freno's Licensed Teacher and Arrested Development' and Better Off Ted.
